UNICUS Fitness® History

In the summer of 2003, an idea was born from the minds of two young, idealistic fitness trainers. That idea was that people who care more about changing their lives and bodies wouldn't have to pay for things that don't contribute to that happening. These include marble looking floors, glass walls, plasma tvs, leather couches in waiting rooms and rows of shiny machines that are hardly got used.

These two trainers knew the dirty little secret of the health club world. This secret is that health clubs and fitness centers that sell memberships... these places make bigger profits if they can sign people up that don't actually come and use the facility. The fact is that most health clubs and fitness centers count on 50% of their membership base never coming in to workout. To look people in the eye and sell them something that you hope they never use but keep paying for (and it's not insurance), was something that these two trainers couldn't do anymore. So they decided to change their own fate. They quit their jobs and went about creating their ideal fitness business, one that wasn't going to rely on hoping people don't show up.

They built their basic business philosophy on a very simple motto: "Take a dollar, change a life"

What this would mean was that customers would be paying to achieve a result and if that result was not achieved, then they should get their money back. Simple enough, but in the fitness industry, a radical concept.

So the name they chose for their business was from a latin word they found. This word, unicus, meant "peerless or different" and it perfectly matched the kind of business they were looking to build, one that was without peer and different from any other fitness business.

They set about creating a series of fitness programs and training systems that would become the framework of their business. These programs and training systems were grounded in two basic methodologies that became the trademark of UNICUS Fitness® Training: Time Under Tension Training and Mechanical Inefficiency Training

Those two young trainers that built UNICUS Fitness® Programs and Services from scratch, would go on to turn it into a family business. You see, with all the hours spent working side by side, they realized that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. So in the Fall of 2006, Frank Nunez and Dina Castillo became Husband and Wife.
